Where the power cord plugs into the back is a real weak link on these and very problematic
Check there first

yea, it wont even turn on....
If it won't wake up with power, it's gonna take a trip to the repair depot.

surfcaster,
I checked it out, tried with and with out dielectric grease and nothing. Wiggle, shook, uninstalled, reinstalled. Its always been supported by zip ties too.

Have you checked to see if you are getting voltage to the unit? Check it at the connector that plugs into the unit. If you are getting power, pack up the unit and send it back to Garmin since the unit is 2 months old (and probably under warranty). I wouldn't do too much beyond that point that might void the warranty.
If not trace it back to the fuse and try it leading to the fuse. Also check your ground connections. A bad or weak ground connection will cause these types of issues. You can have voltage even with a weak ground connection. The weak connection can't support the current needed to properly power the unit, but can support it enough to test it with a multimeter.
Same thing happened with my 2006 when I had it and then on my 4208 this past season after 18 months. I liked the unit, Garmin replaced it free of charge. I lost 2 weeks. My new boat will have all Furuno, reliabilty is important to me...

If it has power and does not work, contact Garmin for a replacement under warranty. If you purchased it at West Marine or some of the other larger dealers, they may exchange it for you if it's new enough.

That would make absolutely no difference.
When you use the voltmeter to see if the unit has power, be sure to put the negative lead on the same terminal the plotter is connected to in case the problem is with the negative connection.

I know, just wanted to rule out all possible quirks on my end before i go through the trouble. When you live 8 hours from your boat, its not a "quick uninstall/install" so I want to be sure before I yank it out.
That said, the power into the back of the unit at the end of the cord reads the same as my fuse block, so its the unit.....
It came from Jim at BOE, so I have no doubts I'll be taken care of, just didnt want to have to hassle with this.

2 questions. what is the voltage you are reading. i think if it is under 12.6 or so you may have a low voltage startup issue. also, i know that if my backlight is turned off, it would be very had to see that the screen is on if there is any glare whatsoever -- just tossing that out. ron
