******** NEW DATE (RAIN DATE IN EFFECT!! JULY 17, 2010!!!!! ********
I'll be there at 10:00AM -- which is early for some, but if you want a good spot it works out well. There is no formal start time or anything like that... the purpose of all this is just to meet other folks that enjoy the same things.
Rain/Weather date: July 17, 2010 (following week), same time.
Decimal Coordinates:
N 39.83376
W 074.09250
-
N39 50.026
W 074 09250
(That conversion was done by my GPS and is a little off when I put it into a GPS converter on the internet... if anyone can help me tighten that up, let me know. You should have no problem finding it.) :)
When you go to that location, you'll see a wooden "deck" on the shore. When you face the deck, you're going to go slightly North of it (to the left)... that area is still very nice and sandy shallow enough to walk to the "deck" and then you can take that walk-way across to the ocean.

Here is a current list of people. If you're name is here and you don't think you can go, please drop me a line: fixitpete@optonline.net or reply or something... :)

Pete, I'll show up. It'll give you a chance to see a really sharp SH 24. Guess it should be late at least late June to be sure the weather is good. Maybe set up a primary date and a bad weather date for the following weekend. Never anchored up at TS but have seen all the boats from a distance. Jack

Great! This might actually turn out to be something! Naturally, you'll have to leave your boat at home -- we already have one 24' Sea Hunt... :jk:
Agreed, we should wait for the weather to be warm enough to enjoy swimming, etc. I also think earlier in the day to secure a good spot. I like just slightly North of the walk-way... I can get coordinates, etc. off the GPS and post as we get closer. Earlier in the day it is easy to see a "group" of boats. I'd rather anchor solo but we can do the "floating armada" look where people bumper to each other if so desired.
Anchoring there is a breeze. Never had a problem, just look at the direction everyone else is facing and the rest is pretty common sense.
Very cool. Nothing like having something different to look forward to during the off-season.
Let's see who else stumbles in. I think I'll throw a post up on the main board...

For years and years, I would look at all those boats and say, "Nah -- that's ain't for me" -- I just was never one to "tie up with the herd" -- well... when we had our son, we started going there (this past summer) -- he was 9 months old -- we get there early. Around 10am. We swim on the bayside, go over to the ocean side, swim more... he love riding on my shoulders... we wade back to the boat (I've actually had to SWIM him in) -- and have lunch. usually by around 1:00 we're out of there... it starts to get too crazy. (Although I have met up with friends and ended up staying until way beyond that) With something like this, if we can get enough people -- *WE* would be the "craziness".
We'll see how it goes...
I haven't been there in years and pass by it every time I go fishing. Could be a good time with a group of people. For me it just depends on what day of the week it is and if the owner of the 220 Seapro i run and take care of is down and needs to me to drive him around.

Sort of why I thought it would be cool... the winter is too friggin long... and after all the work we do to get'er ready for the season, it'll be nice to all get together. What I'm thinking (and PLEASE don't do it yet!!) is that I'll start a "list" of dates. Then we'll take the date that the most number of people can work with - this way it is the most fair and we get the best turnout. Naturally, mother nature may laugh at us, but we'll have a rain date.
If anyone has a better idea on how to set up a date... I'm all ears, but that seems like the best way. Most people have PM'ed me and told me that just about any weekend (weather permitting) would be fine. I can tell you that it would likely be on a Saturday, and it would likely start around 10AM (or sooner) (when things there are still calm and we can "get out spot").
Naturally we should make it when the weather works for swimming (duh), etc.
That's what's been rattling around in my brain. Right now it looks like this went from a "feeler" to a "real thing"... but, please -- any ideas would be awesome.
Thanks,
Pete

Good for me. I''l be there.
Just a quick note. If the plan is to raft or anchor in close proximity to each other, I would suggest keeping it towards the side or outside edge. As we all know it can turn into a zoo there at times. Trying to tie more than a few boats together near the walkway can be almost impossible due to the tight spacing.
OldPete
01-23-2010, 09:21 PM
I'm not a huge fan of the 'raft' thing... But I'm think about just North of the walk way and slightly West. We can see how it looks later down the line and go from there. If we can keep the 10th nailed down -- the rest will be east. :)

Any weekend except July 23rd. I run the Mid-Atlantic Bertram Rendezvous in Atlantic City. Come on down if you are interested as we encourage other boats. Last year we had Blackfins, Bayliners, Vikings, and a Bruno Stillman.
I like rafting up; but you need to know how to drive, and tie up your boat with plenty of bumpers. Every fourth or fifth boat just has to drop an anchor. I have a 35 Bertram so I will need to stay out in a little deeper water. Or I can bring my 20 shamrock and run it aground.

Yeah, no problem. I live in Beach Haven West but keep my boat slipped at Causeway Marina which is just past the causeway bridge on the right going north. Let me know when we get closer to the date and if you can make it. If so, I'll give you my contact info and we'll hook up. I'm going to post the exact coords as soon as I can get there by boat. For the people that need a good picture of the area. I'm going to try a link on MSN maps.
The link where I recommend the smaller boats start to anchor and then work their way West is the area marked by the "flag"... It is out of the way and easy to walk to Fisherman's Walkway...
Let's try the link:
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=qn54n78ts3cz&scene=8904663&lvl=2&sty=b&sp=Point.qn54n88ts3cy_Tices____&rtp=adr.~pos.39.83436491358981_-74.09182267984683_near%20Street%2C%20Seaside%20Par k%2C%20New%20Jersey%2008752%2C%20United%20States_' Tices'__a_&rtop=0~0~0~

It worked for me. Is that A7 beach access to the SE of the Tices flag you have marked on there?
Great!
I don't know the designations for the accesses... I do know that from that "deck" you can cross to Fisherman's Walkway. about 100 feet beyond there is the drive-on access. From there, during season, you can only go South via 4x4.
The flag I put was just to show a proposed area to anchor for shallow draft vessels.
More South of the "deck" you get the more crowded it gets. There is a nice sand-bar about 600 feet South of the flag point, so if we get too far out, we can walk over to the sand bar and then to the "deck"...
It's really not all that complicated, but when we're all on land -- it seems it. :)

Based on that description, it is A7 then. A23 is the farthest south you can drive on pavement and Gillikins in the only other access which is 2 miles from the front gates. That helps me out because my old man won't let me take the Whaler out on my own yet (and even if he did, I wouldn't). I mentioned the meet and greet to him and he liked the idea and said he'd be down to go but with a 24/7 emergency service company to run, things can suddenly pop up. Worst case scenario, I can kayak over

No sweat. Just head South, look for the sign that says "Fisherman's Walkway" - parking is in the lot on the left. Cross the road and you'll see a wooden boardwalk. Take it to the end, which is the "deck" that you see in that photo. From there you can walk/wade/swim/whatever. :)

July 10th is my birthday so I will certainly remember the date!
Depending on the number THT boats are firmed up to attend perhaps we could put a couple of stakes or buoys so as to sorta-kinda reserve spots for a while. I would suspect that as long as the "reserved area" did not unduly take up too much vacant space for too much time that others would be considerate.
I'm in Barnegat so I would be happy to run over there early with a couple others and assist with this of it's what we decide to do.

I was looking for a countdown timer that I could add... I don't know anything about the site, but it looked kind of cool. Seems fair, they get their name on there and I get a free nautical count-down timer.

From IBSP website:
Pets
Dogs are permitted in the park but must be kept on a leash that is a maximum length of six feet. They are not allowed on the swimming beach (the lifeguard area) during the summer season or on the Spizzle Creek Bird Blind Trail at any time. It is a good idea to check your dog for ticks (http://www.islandbeachnj.org/ParkFacts/annoy.html) after you take them on any of the other trails. Also do not leave your dog, or any other pet, unattended in the car during warm weather. If you are planning to spend hours in a part of the park where you cannot bring your dog, both you and your buddy will probably be much better off if you are able to leave your dog at home.

Pete, about what time were you out there last Friday? We came back in through Barnegat Inlet. Didn't stop at Tices cause we had a big bass in the fishbox but we probably passed ya on the trip back to the dock. Saw a lot of Sea Hunts out there. Very nice looking boats

jerseyplumber: Same here! Just grabbed a cheap Magma "Cabo" grill from WM to use up the gift card I had -- never mind the cost of the rod-holder mount (doh!) - anyway...

Hey,
Im new here but I might make it out if Im welcome. I presume its near the tip of IBSP. Im trailering from Pa anybody have a ramp suggestion for a 22?
Dave
You're certainly welcome. The very nearest ramp is the one @ Island Beach State Marina... HOWEVER it can be a bit of a pain. The newest and nicest is the Seaside Park Municipal Boat Ramp. VERY sweet and easy to use. If you prefer one that is more "protected" there is an older on located just South of the A&P in Seaside Heights. It is good if the weather is crappy because there's a barrier island that keep the water calm. You'll want to go down the center of the ramp as the sides tend to have a drop off.
If you're experienced at the ramp, the Seaside Park one is the best one. IMHO.
If you want to stay on the main-land, then aim for something on the East end of the Forked River.
Pete
P.S. if you want me to add you to the list, just let me know.
ReelNauti
06-28-2010, 10:43 AM
Not for nothing, but I wouldn't tow a boat to Seaside just to launch on that side of the bay. Besides trailing over to the island, the route to Tices is much easier from Forked River. You will not have any shallow water till you hit Tices.
Personally I would launch from Townsends Marina on Lacey Road.
Luna Sea, Tices is actually about the center of the park.
If you come out of FR, just look across the bay and look for all the boats, it's really hard to miss.

Hi,
At those coordinates, you will not see four feet. If you go out about 200-400 feet (West) you will be in water that is 6+' (depending on tide). It is VERY common for people to float over from their larger boats and sail boats.
Be great to see you there! (and the boat!)

You can actually get pretty close to the bar and still have decent water.
That being said, I draw 2.5'. I usually stay out in at least 4' of water.
The closer and shallower it gets, the tighter the fit between boats and the harder it is to leave.
That being said, I'll most likely anchor out a little and come in on a float with my swim fins towing a bobber cooler.

Once again, it's a Blue Hull, White Top 24' Center Console Sea Hunt Gamefish. I'll be on board with my pregnant wife and 2 year old. If you can't find me, there is something wrong with you. :D

Well let me tell you, it was actually a GREAT day out at Tices. Yes it rained, but it never poured, more of a gentle rain/drizzle. No lightning or thunder. The worst of it only lasted about 10 minutes. People never even got out of the water.
It was calm and empty. It was actually a nice break from the oppressive heat we've been having. We had about 5 boats from my marina out there. We we all swimming around visiting, drinking, eating.
After the storm rolled out it got even better. The bay was like a lake with a gentle breeze. We took inventory and decided to stay the night.
Nothing like waking up and looking out the porthole to see the sun starting to rise over IBSP. I would have missed it if it wasn't for the 2  jetskis
blowing past between me and the shore.
Made a pot of coffee and hung out till the crowd started rolling in.

I know what you mean -- the problem was that you're coming from across the bay @ Forked River. There are people that are coming from the other side of the bridge in LBI -- it wouldn't have been a great idea for them to run up for it... especially a bunch had young kids, etc.

P.S. I fished from 7:30-12:00 today, and now it's rough as hell -- My boat isn't very clean... so you win. :)

Not a huge turn-out, but still lots of fun to meet those that were there!
Thanks to Steve and Mark, now I can say I did the "tie-up"! :)
Nick, with the nicest looking hull I've ever seen!

Pete, I was there around 12:20 and cruised up and down until about 12:45. Didn't see your boat. Called you on 09 and 68..no response. Stoxbonds was out at the tires and heard me hail you and called me up. Said he tried to call you earlier and also got no response. Sorry I missed you.

Jack, we were there, had the red throwable on the tip of the boat pole, all the way up on the T-Top. Was there until around 3:00 and then when we were leave spotted reelnauti (who by then had been found by hlights2... who had stopped by earlier. We rafted up and had a great swim and BS session. Before that I met up with nickmo and his wife -- great folks - everyone was really cool.
I called Dave (stoxbonds) back I had been out earlier yesterday and didn't go outside today.
We scored great on Friday AM - a total of 12... was back at the dock before noon. :)
I tried to keep the radio on, but between the baby crying, all the swimming and the people around... it was tough. I figured nobody could miss the red throwable up there!
Any time you want to get together, just let me know!

Pete,
We had a great time meeting you and your family. I hadn't been at Tice's for quite a while and had a blast. Thanks for all your work putting it together. Love your boat, especially those fuel burn numbers.

Thanks, Nick! (and to your wife!) We went in the ocean that day -- after you got past the breakers it was nice!
