a friend of mine is looking at one of these powered with a 35 hp engine. Just looking for something to run around Moriches Bay with as a second boat. Anything he should look out for on this vessel? Has anyone on this site owned one? is 35 hp enough for this set up?

I've never owned one and only ridden in one (wood) in fairly calm conditions. In those days every Chinco waterman (it seemed) had one and you'd see them out in all conditions. Those boys liked as much power as they could hang on the back although 35 seems like it would do the job, I'm guessing that 50 would make your friend happier.

I have an 18ft Chincoteague fiberglass scow with a new 40hp. Runs at 20-22kts at 4000 but that's as fast as I want to run this boat. Used to have a 70 on it but that was way too much motor. It was scarry fast and a scow can rarely run very fast unless it is flat calm.
