I have a 2002 2680 glacier bay for sale and am considering repowering the boat to help the value of the boat and mabe get some people more intrested in the boat. The boat is currently powered with 2002 hpdi with
around 1000hrs. They are in great shape, not a spot of corrosion, perfect compression and always maintained above oem specs. But the hrs seem to be the OHH when talking to people about the boat, even though they are the best power for the boat, underrated and get the same performance # as the 4 strokes.

But am wondering if it is worth the cost, and will it be money wasted. The price of the boat is 54,800 and say I can a set if F150 for 12,000 with low hrs and great shape.

Now I have 67k in the boat, am I going to recover the money? Is the boat more appealing to potential buyers? If I sell the hpdi's what are they worth?

If I can get 5k for them then I am down to 62k for the boat and that seems like a deal for that boat with f150 and under 400hrs.

Any help would be great
Thanks

You would not get your money out, and I think you would find the 4 strokes are a little heavy for that boat. Hate to say it, but I believe your price is too high. I recently saw a 26 foot cc Glacier Bay in the Virginian Pilot (I believe around a 2000 model) with Merc 2 strokes and a trailer for either 25 or 26 thousand including a trailer.

You'll likely only get ~1/4 of your money back, i.e, if you put in 30K, you might see 7.5K back. At that point, your better off just dropping the price 20K or so... I'd say if somehow, you can get a deal on newer motors with less hours, like 05's or newer, with <300hrs for less than 5K, you might give it a try. But personally I wouldn't risk any more than that. Unfortunately, your boat may still sell for less than you'd like and you likely still won't recover much of your money, but the boat may sell faster...

You will never recover the money.

Look at what else is for sale and let that help guide you. The 2002 2680 in Barrington is at $55K and has 470 hours on the engines, so increasing your asking price into the $60s might extend the time it takes to sell her despite the excellent condition.

I'd say take half the cost of the new power and reduce your price by that much. It'll get the boat into the $40s and you're already into that kind of net pricing what with the extra investment.

DON'T do it.Better off taking the lesser money.Or, if you are so sure about the motors , offer the new buyer a one year warranty from you to help the sale....

I agree, you will spend less money just lowering the price. The market is fickle...

 smart move....as mentioned above the market is REALLY tight right now, new engines will make very little difference in sale price....
