OMG did we get hammered. It's been raining for days but Sunday nght the bottom fell out of the sky. Some parts of the metro picked up over 30 inches or rain in 36 hrs.....my house was slammed with around 12 to 15 inches in the same period.

Here are some pics of what I saw. The first few show my yard and creek yesterday morning. The pine came down next door and I had to cut the base to get it to laydown on the street so I could trim enough branches to allow cars to pass. I don't know where that pipe came from. You can see the tide line in my yard where the high water stopped during the evening. Another pic shows the new water hazard at Bobby Jones Golf Course....this is less than a 1/2 mile from my house.

The remaining pics show the results when the rains came back again in the afternoon. My property has two creeks, one in the front and one that wraps around the side. The creeks combine at the edge of my yard and they back up in my neighbors front yard. Our house did ok, my neighbor's crawl space flooded and he lost his HVAC system and water heater......he forgot to get flood insurance....ouchie.

Pictures..........
#5 was at 2:25 pm
#6 was at 2:33 pm
#7 was at 2:36 pm
#8 was at 2:42 pm

The last pic was taken while I was sitting in the house, enjoying the generator and the HD antenna since we lost power for at least 4 hours.

FWIW - the bridge in this picture was replaced after my last one was taken away by a flooding rain we endured a few years ago. The new bridge is arched to get it above the water and it is bolted down to a new concrete foundation.......it worked like a champ. :)

Here are a few short videos. The first is a snapping turtle in the front yard. I don't know where that guy came from. The little bastard tried to jump and bite me....LMAO.

The next two vid were taken on a bridge over Peachtree Creek. The water was up over 20 feet....it's normally only a foot or two deep. You can see a glimpse of the golf course where I took the water hazard photo. Today the creek is down at least 15 feet.

Wow... I lived in that area from 2002 - 2006 near Lake Alatoona. All I ever heard of were droughts. :o

In fact we used to walk down to the lake in the winter and there would just be a little creek through the center of it. The kids would find all kinds of stuff dropped overboard when there was 10' of water there.

We "only" got about 6" here in the upstate of SC but a little further above us they also got hammered.

Buddy of mine has a in laws that live in ATL and say they do not have any water due to all the water lines breaking.

Also saw pics of I-75 at spaghetti junction and it was unreal

Hope ya'll dry out some rest of the week, by the way that is a hell of a water hazard on that green it would take me a dozen balls to land on that one:grin:

Emergency HD digital rabbit ears.......power loss kills our cable system

Gee... I wonder why that turtle was so pissed...

I know it wasn't nice to tap his shell....it sounded a lot worse than it was since the stick was waterlogged and relatively soft.

Speaking of spaghetti junction....a lady stopped on the high rise overpass to help a spun out truck. Another truck slammed into her car, rammed the other truck and knocked her off the overpass ...... down 100 ft onto I-85.....very sad.

Glad to see the tennis shoes at the end of the turtle video. Proves it was you.

We came through pretty well at both our house and lake house on Lanier. Neighbor at Lanier had a 30'+ Sea Ray sink at their dock.

I could be wrong, but rabbit ears are VHF antennas. HD is broadcast on UHF. The part of that antenna that is actually recieveing HD is the square panel at the base, and the rabbit ears aren't really doing anything, unless there are still analog broadcasts in your area for some reason.

We got bushwacked also. We almost lost our bridge which is normally 10 feet above the trout stream that is normally a foot deep.

I was wondering if anyone would see the infamous Tireless tenny shoes.

Bummer on the boat, I'll bet the bilge killed the battery and under she went.

Wow they have that golf hole set up pretty tough and how come people driving a car that sits 12" off the road think they can drive them through 4' of water?

Wasn't it just over a year ago that I was looking at photos here of empty lakes and deserted boats in the hard lake bottoms? I remember a few years ago on a 2 week motorcycle trip on Skyline Drive and seeing the mud inside peoples homes after the water receeded. It was horrible, but most people jumped in and just made things happen with the cleanup.

We wrapped up a 2 year drought this spring....our main lake, Lake Lanier, was more than 20 feet below full pool of 1,071 feet above sea level.....this morning it was 1,068.

At least you don't have to worry any more about it drought. I am glad to hear you did not suffer any flood damage, but it stinks for your neighbor. Your snapping turtle video is hilarious. Good thing he didn't get ahold of your finger! At least you don't have to worry about gators in your backyard.

Don't concern your little ole heart 'bout Lanier. Judge Magnuson's gonna see to it that we in ATL don't take any water from it to drink. But it's alright for AL and FL to use all they want. I think it was very wise of the government to assign this judge to this case. He's from MN who's state is called "The Land of 10,000 Lakes". Yeah, he's the man to decide how we use the water from this lake one of about 5 larger lakes in GA.
