I am looking to get a boat to use in the South East Coast, mainly in harbour, rivers, and creeks as a rec boat with some fishing. I just looked at 08 closeout 19 Trophy Bay with a 115 Optimax on it. Does anyone have any comments on Trophy, specifically the Bay series and a little concerned with purchasing a 2 stroke when everyone else is pushing 4 strokes. Any advice for a new boat buyer?

The Trophy bay boats are just Sea Pro bay boats with a different sticker on the side.

Nothing wrong with the Opti.

Does anyone else have comments on quality of trophy vs DLV skiff, or Key West, or Palm Beach?

Or comments on Opitmax Mercury?

Thanks

So do you think they are too cheap? Looking to keep the boat say 3-4 years tops.

Nothing about being "cheap". "A Few Bucks' was just referring to the fact that when Brunswick took over Sea Pro/Boss, they dropped the brand and put Trophy stickers on the side of the hull. Sea Pro/Boss had a good following.

But for a short-term boat, I'd look at something used that is a late model with low hours and preferably still under warranty.

Unless the Trophy (or any other new boat) is being "given away"...

It's a buyers market, act like it...

Not sure where your located, but I just purchased a leftover 21' Sailfish bay boat and the dealer also has an 19' in stock. I got a great deal on mine and I'm sure the same would be true for the 19'.

The dealer is in VA, pm me if your intersted.

If you are only going to keep it 3-4 years, I wouldn't buy ANY new boat from ANY manufacturer. Let someone else take that depreciation hit and find a gently used or try to find a leftover at a screaming price. Buying new and selling in 3-4 years will cost you money and the more expensive the boat, the more you'll lose when you sell it.

I just got a Trophy 1901 bay last year as a 2006 left over after a bad experience with buying a used boat a few years ago. The price was great (cheaper than a lot of the used boats) and the warranty was setup so that you get the full boat warranty, full motor warranty plus a special from Mercury that extended the motor warranty by 5 years (not sure if they are still doing this). So far I love the boat and the quality & ride have been excellent, even in some pretty rough water. If you only want to keep it for a few years I'd highly recommend looking at a leftover or used boat. The leftover has the advantage of hopefully being less expensive to maintain and when you go to sell it you'll be selling something with a warranty left on it....

I agree, the Trophy is a re-branded Sea Pro and a nice boat. I am originally from CHS, and that boat will do great for you. There are a lot of great deals on these boats so buying new brings some security, warranty, and how the boat is used. It also helps the boating industry stay healthy. Go with the Trophy or send me a personal message and we can chat about CHS.

I previously owned a used 1703 Trophy with a 2005 115 Optimax. I wouldn't hesitate on the deal if the price is right - it may be better then buying used. Comparable to KeyWest except Trophy does use plywood in transom - otherwise similar. That engine is a fuel-miser - probably better than a 4-stroke. Burned very little oil and always started on the first turn. It's a 3 banger so not the smoothest at lower rpm (nitpicking now). I don't know if it will last "10,000" hours but it was good to me!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm finding quite a few deals on new boats that are cheaper than used ones. For instance, some new '07 and '08 Scouts are being sold well below invoice, so two-or-three-year-old models on boat trader is selling for more than a new one.
