Another thread got me thinking about this:
If you have a unit that comes with built in charts (i.e. Garmin 4208, 4212, 5208, 5212), how do you update these charts year after year as they are updated... Charts where you insert a chip, you get a new chip and you are set.

garmin will send you a card, you do the upload and then send the card back. they will charge you when they ship the card and then give you a 50% refund when you ship back. i'm not sure if they have actually started updating yet, but they told me the expected net cost to you(us) would be $75 to $100. i don't know if they plan to do it download-wise.

Yes, they have updates. My slip neighbor updated his. It was a year or two old. His update brought his charts to the same version as mine. The update is free within a certain period of purchase, there is a charge after that.

I'll try to remember to look today, but I believe it is 2.50. I'm sure it is on the Garmin site somewhere.

Since my unit is newer (few months) I'd like to find out how this actually works. I don't have time to get onto Garmin's site right now but I will be out on the boat today and check to see what mine says.

I was at the boat today and forgot to check (duh). I did look around Garmin's web site to figure out how do the chart update but came up blank.
