I need to send faxes all the time from my laptop.
If you google free fax service, there are thousands of services that come up. It looks like most of them make there money on advertising. I'm ok with this, but are my recipients getting faxes at all hours of the night because I faxed to them??

Anyone use a reputable internet fax service that they care to share?

If you do not need to recieve faxes on your computer and only want to send faxes then you can use software on your computer to do so if you have a telephone line avaliable. You can probably do more but I just used the free software.

I used to use efax to send/receive via the web -- very credible. Then someone I know went though the FBI training at Quantico -- now I don't send any faxes I don't absolutely have to. I never send anything confidential via fax.

Ditto what bsmit24 said about faxing and available phone line.

Also, if you have a Verizon cellphone with BlueTooth, Verizon allows faxing for free -- BlueTooth to your Verizon cellphone and let 'er rip. You can also surf the web this way for free but it takes forever at 14.4kb/sec

Brian;
I can't use a phone line. I need to fax while traveling sometimes and I have a Wifi at home. Thanks, though.

Eyeball:
I don't fax confidential stuff, mainly quotes and such, but my issue with that is the internet fax company is pulling documents off my computer in order to fax them. I don't know how that works, but it sounds invasive. Do I have choices other than not to fax?

Can someone explain how to use the multi quote feature that I just needed right there? I'm such a putz.

Most of the attorneys I know are switching from fax to email since more people have email at home than fax machines. With legal documents the gold standard is Adobe pdf files. They are easy to build. Simply download a free pdf converter, such as Cute pdf converter, and print to pdf rather than print to a printer. Then email the file to your customers. They can read it at their end or print it if they choose. I find it MUCH easier and more reliable than faxing.

I agree 100%

Believe it or not, I have some customers with no email. It is a royal PIA:banghead:

But I have to deal with it. I have no choice.

My estimating software has a PDF converter and everything goes via email, but some people just won't budge.

Thanks,

After Eyeball's post, I was checking to see if Tmobile offered bluetooth faxing. It may be a good option for you. Came up with this googling bluetooth faxing http://bluetooth-explorer.blogspot.com/2007/04/fax-over-bluetooth.html

Been using Myfax.com for almost 4 years. $10 / month for more faxes than I'll ever send or recieve. Works great. They have software that plugs into MS Outlook if you need it. Attach pdf's Word doc's etc to an "email" and send it off. They turn it into a fax and you get a confirmation email a few minutes later if it went thru. A notice if it didn't. They give you a toll free number to publish as your fax # and anyone who wants to fax to you just sends the fax to that phone #. You get an email with .pdf of the fax attached. They also filter junk faxes and you can add any junk you get to their junk list. Works great and if you have email on your phone, you can get faxes on it since it's just an email with a .pdf attached.

Mike, just an idea but would magicjack work with faxing? I remember a thread a few months back a few THTers seemed to be using it with few complaints.

I'm going to look into that Bluetooth and this Myfax.com thing. 4 years with them shows some legs to the company. I hate faxes, but I got to adapt to other people or get left behind.

Magic Jack, I remember that thread, but the infomercial makes me a little cautious.

I may look into all these, god knows I got the time lately! Thanks....

To the right of every post in a thread is 3 boxes -- the midle box is a double-quotation mark. Click it and it turns red. Make red all of the post you want to quote, then also click on the quote button of the last post you are quoting. All of the posts with red double quote boxes show up in your message composition window. They appear in the order you made the quote marks red. Clicking on a red quote mark removes it from the multiple quote list.

www.efax.com (http://www.efax.com)

Have used it for years.

Not only can you send a fax, but you can get an efax number which allows you to receive faxes and check them on your computer. Our fax server sends a copy of every fax we receive to our efax number, so they can be viewed immediately
