I have a Zodiak Coaster SY6 Classe V (XDCA6X388303) which I need repacked. It was purchased several years ago and last serviced in June 2007 when Flares, copper gasket and painter line were replaced. What kind of servicing is needed now and does anyone know a good place to get this done in Bethesda/Annapolis/Ocean City MD? I paid $600 bucks a 6 hours labor last time which seemed a lot. Is this something I can do myself?

I would contact USA Services at 1-800-606-6977, they are in Annapolis. It is labor intensive to unpack a life raft, manually inflate it and take pressure readings, do a floor seam test and re-pack it to the manufacturers standards. It also is not cheap to carry and maintain manufacurers' certificates and have technicians trained at their facilities. Really the bottom line is there is a maintenance fee to buying a life raft. Lastly, no, this not something you want to do yourself. You can take comfort in knowing your life raft will work if it is serviced by an authorized service facility. A life raft has to work exactly as it is designed to at a moment's notice. Servicing your life raft ensures that it works exactly as designed. Thank you for the post. Brian Kinsella
