Hello all,
I am new to the forum but not to boating. I've owned 6 boats ranging from a 13' Whaler to a 30' Chris Craft Commander. Currently I fish on a 23' Stamas. Since I prefer straight inboards I have been thinking about a Shamrock. Most of what I find tells what a great company Shamrock is - a small manufacturer building quality hand laid fiberglass boats. I came across this link recently which tells a different story. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks. http://www.yachtsurvey.com/boatreviews/shamrock_26.htm

There's been alot said on this site. Most complaints are about the lack of deadrise, and the motor sitting low in the bilge.

Yes go join fishtheclassic; but don't drink the coolaid. The banned me for speaking the truth and they delete negative threads. Oh they also hate Pascoe.
I own a 20 Shamrock. Engine low in the bilge, scuppers under water if you walk to the transom ( you have to use plugs to keep the ocean out) slow, WET, noisy, built cheap. Pluses: you can run it aground and not bend the prop (sand or mud only). That is about it.

Now I am not in any way questioning your thought processes or judgement, since you obviously would know a lot about these boats, but I am just curious as to why you bought the third one?

Redundant spares?

+++++ (LMFAO) (The second one's OK, right? "Maybe #1 was a Monday boat. Maybe #1 was a lemon. Etc.)

JC - had 2 shamrocks a 22 walkaround and a 26 express. Enjoyed them both tremendously and have no problem recommending them to someone looking at straight inboards boats. You will find both good and bad comments about all Shamrock models on the fishtheclassic site. Simple search will show that. Like other brands they have their issues which include a wet ride, slower speeds (especially the keel models) and depending on year made some quality issues. The pros as far as I was concerned was a nice stable platform for drifting or trolling as well as when on anchor - less rolling all around than a deeper V boat.
Not sure what to make of the Pascoe review, it's no secret he did not like the boat he tested but plenty of people do. THere are a whole lot of 20+ year old shamrocks out there still proving their owners a good, safe fishing platform.
Good luck

Shamrock is out of business, so whatever you are going to look at will be used. The brand had several different parent companies over the years and they built boats of varying quality.
