I have a very nice Birdsall leaning post on my Whitewater in Montauk, NY. The bar that keeps the cooler from sliding into the drivers feet has a 1.5 inch split in it. It is not at the weld and is on the top of the pipe. I guess that the big stansion filled up with water enough to fill the horizontal pipe and it split over the winter. I have no idea how the water got in there. In addition, I have zero desire to remove the whole leaning post and have it welded (at least right now).

2 questions:

Is there an epoxy or like product to seal the split ? Or should I just take duct tape and put it over the hole.

ANyone else have this problem? SHould I drill holes in the legs for water to drain?

Thanks.

I had this same problem on my Seacraft which has a Birdsall leaning post. I assumed it was ice that did this too. One side split about 3 years ago and I just noticed this spring that the other side has too. Knowing what I know now I think the problem could be solved by drilling drain holes. To Birdsall's credit I called after the 1st one and they sent me a new bar. He said he'd be glad to fix it for me but being I am 600+ miles away or so that wasn't feasable. The first time I have it to a welding shop for something else I am going to have it replaced. I guess I need to call them to try to get one for the other side too.
