I'm getting a new boat with a minn kota riptide st trolling motor on the bow. I was wanting to add a fish finder to the bow also, but the marina says they don't have a good way to mount the transducer to the trolling motor.

Anyone out there that has done this? If so, how'd you do it?

Airmar makes a transducer specifically for mounting on a trolling motor.

I believe the problem is mainly running the wire from the transducer. The way the shaft deploys on this one apparently makes the normal method hard to do

I haven't yet found a solution to this. The minn kota guide shows running the transducer wire through the coiled cable, and looks like it is just run loose to the motor head. It seems there would be a lot of slack wire when you store the motor this way though, although I haven't tried it( haven't bought a fish finder or transducer yet ).

Melvinhatcher, do you have a picture of how you ran the wire around the trolling motor mount?

Its very easy. First off you can purchase a trolling motor with the ducer built into the lower unit of the trolling motor or you can run the cable down yourself. Make sure you leave a loop at the knuckle of the shaft so that you dont run out of cable when you turn the motor. Also, a stainless steel hose clamp is fine to hold the ducer in place but eventually it will scrape the paint off of the motor. If you use a heavy duty wire tie there is no scrapping. I then use electrical tape and or wire ties to keep the cable tight tothe shaft. If the marina says they dont have a good way to mount the ducer would make me nervous........big red flag!! I will get you a pic of the way that i rigged mine if you liike!!

There needs to be a litttle slack so that when you raise and lower the motor the ducer cable does not stretch. I drilled a hole in the deck right next to the trolling motor base so that the ducer cable comes out under my depth finder that way there is no wires visible across the deck. Clean and neat!!

Pastaman, looking at your boat pics( very nice! ), it appears you have the trolling motor mount where the shaft is fixed to the mount.

I have the riptide st, where the shaft actually slides down through the mount when you deploy it. This causes a problem with the transducer wire, since you can't actually attach it to the shaft since the shaft slides through a hole in the mount. Its kind of tough to tell from the picture, but the mount on these motors doesn't move at all. The shaft just slides through and tilts down as it deploys.

Gotcha.....my bad....If its not too late get the one with the factory installed universal sonar transducer. This will give you a pigtail at the mount of the motor where you can plug your ducer into.

I have one, a bow-mount, foot control 24-v Riptide. The transducer is mounted with a stainless clamp - no problem. The transducer cable is wrapped to the shaft right above the motor with the electrical tape (I use the waterproof kind that is used in mines and wells) and then again to the shaft right below the top. The transducer cable is unattached to the shaft for the length of the motor, which seemed a bit strange at first since I had used MotorGuide before this one. However, it works fine, and I've had no problems for more than 5 years on this rig.
