Ok, I have the garmin AP connected via NMEA 2K to a 4212. The 4212 is connected via the marine network to a 3210.

I'd like to get the course heading echoed to the 3210 via the marine network (needed for marpa). I can't find any way to have the 4212 output that sentance (doesn't appear in the list).

Am I missing it or do I have to wire up the 018x connections directly from the AP to the 3210?

nmea0183 out from the AP or compass to the 3210

I was afraid of that. Oh well, at least it will make the 3210 completely redundant (won't need the 4212 to work with the AP if needed).

Now, if I connect the 3210 to the gps17 and also have it connected to the 4212, will the 3210 get confused with 2 different gps feeds (one from the marine network, and one from 0183)?

The 3210 will only see the GPS signals from the NMEA0183 antenna.

It's definitely getting a gps feed from the marine network right now. Are you saying it will ignore one over the other?

If there are two gps sources available the one with the smallest position error will be used

Ok, just to tidy up I was able to get it all to work together. I had to wire the 3210 to the GPS17HVS directly, as well as to the GHP10 NMEA 0183 leads. The only sentence the GHP10 outputs is HDG, which is what I wanted anyway. Of course, the 3210 can now drive the AP as well.

To connect the 3212 tot he GHP10 via NMEA 0183, connect blue to brown and brown to blue. You then need to go to system> comm > Input 1 and change Garmin to NMEA in/out.

Voila. it all works, especially MARPA, and it's all redundant to the 4212. If I lose one, the other keeps charting away......

It would have been simpler if Garmin would just give me the option to output HDG to 0183, but at least this way the 3210 isn't dependent on the 4212 for gps.
