I just got a leaning post from Birdsall. I am very pleased with the workmanship. I had a very good idea of what I wanted but took Bob's advice on a couple of things and am very glad I did. Very pleased.

I have seen that style of leaning post before and was interested to know if you have to turn the rods around so the reels do not hit the backrest. I use shorter buts on my rods than most and it looks like the reels would hit. what is the distance from the top of the rod holder to clear the backrest?

from the top of the rod holder to top of backrest frame is 3 1/4". I have a 6/0 penn on a very old VonHoff rod that has a shorter butt than most rods. That rod measures 15 1/8" from the center of the reel seat (clamp bolt) to the top of the groove in the butt cap. see picture. I don't know for sure but I would be surprised if Birdsall couldn't adjust the rod holder height if it is an issue for you.

How much did that set you back? Great looking leaning post.

the LP was about $1350.00. I added a couple of things and got the 10" wide cushion. This did not include the shipping. With the fixed back it had to go by truck because of the dimensions. My shipping was about $65.00.

Are the cupholders welded or bolted to the frame? How robust do you think they are.

I could really use something like that on my boat.

the cupholders are bolted on. I think if I grabbed one, I could break it off but it seems plenty sturdy for the intended purpose. No light for pictures now, but if it matters to you, I will take a picture of the holder and it's mounting tomorrow.

If it is not too much trouble, I would appreciate it.

It's difficult finding a clamp on drink holder for that size pipe.

Thanks again,

They sell just the cup holders, I put them up in upper station of my boat, just sink 2 screws in the back side of the pipe and you are good to go, im pretty rough on them and havent seen one come loose yet.

My albury has the Birdsall T-top and leaning post and they look as good today as when the boat was new. My seat comes with a pretty neat removable back rest that folds up...
