My son has been saving his pennies with an eye towards buying a Hobie Kayak for fishing inland rivers and estuaries. Anybody in the New England area have one for sale? I might help him out a little bit if the right opportunity arises.
Thanks

Andy-- Check out craiglist, that may be the best place to locate one. Esspecially with the economy being so grim, you may be able to find a great deal. Does it have to be a Hobie? He may be able to find an inexpensive kayak and with a little bit of work, have a great fishing platform.

He likes the hands-free element of the Hobie. They're hard to find used, so we might have to compromise.

Im one of the first dealers in the country for them and you wont find a used one at a bargain. They realy hold their value used. You want to get the new factory warranty. If you shop around especialy noe in the dead of winter you should be able to grab a new one for $1500 to $1600. Wait till spring and forget it. everybody gets fullprice then.

Thanks for the advice Barrell. I'm starting to find out first hand that used Hobies are tough, if not impossible, to find.

Used Hobie Revolution on Baltimore's craiglist (Jan 2nd entry). I they are asking $1,500 for a 2006 with rudder and other extras. I don't know much about the used Hobie market but price seems a bit aggressive. Here's the link and good luck. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/boa/966199148.html

Just to clarify my last entry, I am not the person selling the used Hobie. I mistyped my message and include "I" before "they." In fact, I am in the market for a new kayak and have not decided whether to go with a Hobie or Wilderness Tarpon 16.
Any way good luck and tight lines to your son. Kayak fishing and crabbing is the best.

I have been searching for a used Hobie as well. I have looked into the Native Watercraft kayak's as well. Both are pricey but both are propel's for hands free. Ebay runs around 1750 for Hobie's not including shipping. Good luck! Maybe put your name in at sports places around your area that carry them. Maybe locate and outdoors adventure company that may have a used ones on hand.

It is not worth giving up the warranty by buying used just to save a couple hundred dollars. The warranty with Hobie is the best. Make sure the dealer as a good rep for standing behind the product. Some do some dont. If someone ever has a problem with anything we take it apart and replace the part imediatly while the customer waits and deal with the company later as far as getting the part replaced to our inventory.
