took my son to his roller hockey picnic in bayvile today. rink is located at dudley park, formerly glen cedars years ago. cedar creek runs through the park. my 15 yr old son decided to fish a small area in the corner of the park. he ended up pulling out a monster pickerel on a ultralight 5' rod with 4 lb test. it measured out at 26 " and must be at least 4 plus lbs. never seen such a big pickerel in this area. usualy 12-14 " is big. a friend who was out the picnic then offered to mount it up for my son. quite a proud day for him as about 100 people admired his biggest freshwater catch ever!!!!!!!

nice !
He must be a fairly accomplished angler. a pickerel that size on 4 lb takes a bit of skill. you must have taught him well.

I remember as a kid catching big pickerel in the Toms River by Manitou Park and back towards the Parkway bridge. We would catch a few up to that size. Also there are some big largemouths lurking in the brackish water around the same area. It's great to hear kids doing the same thing I did 30 years ago. Just wait he'll get the pickerel fever and start skipping school with the ultralight some rapalas and daredevils!

Title a little overboard, wouldn't you say? Hardly consider a 4lb pickerel a "monster" fish.

 was that comment necessary? the guy said his son caught his biggest ever freshwater fish, on light tackle to boot. i consider that a gargantuan monster fish of biblical proportions if he does.
