I have been using GPSNavX for route planning and waypoint creation on my Mac. It's a great little program ($60) that works well with OSX and the free government charts. It allows for transfer of routes & waypoints to a memory chip to load into my Furuno 1920 c/nt plotter. The question is that it can export in 3 formats, CSV, GPX, & KML. Does anyone know which format Furuno uses?

I know this is an old thread, but my guess is that its a .gpx. The only reason I think this is because of the MaxSea program I have from Furuno. The version I have only uses .gpx file format as an export function.

I have a 1720c and it uses a proprietory Furuno format outputing files named GP1650B.ROU, GP1650B.RAT, GP1650B.MRK, GP1650B.TRK. The 'rou' file contains waypoints, 'mrk' marks and 'trk' track plots. I use a utility called the GPS Utility read and edit these files. It has fantastic support from the designer so I can highly recommend it.

Hmm, did not know that gpsu would support that file type and the furuno line. thanks

I have been using GPSU with a 1920 c/Map chartplotter and have had uneven results with transfering the files back to the plotter. Sometimes the routes transfer, and sometimes the title transfers but the route is empty or only has the first and last waypoint in it. The symbol sets never seem to work, so after I transfer new waypoints I still have to go through them all on the furuno and define the symbol and color one at a time on the plotter.

Write to the designer. All of the above work for me. The program has been updated recently to include new functionality for Furuno Navnet vx2 files.
