Hello to all. I am trying to obtain information on the builder of this boat. The builder is listed as Key West #1. I have never heard of them. Any information good or bad would be of great help. There is a picture of the boat on http://keywestcharterboats.com

They were built on Stock Island in large numbers during the 1980s. Stock Island is the next key up from Key West. Two models, 39' and 45'. The 45' had a 16' beam. I believe they were both knock offs of production boats but I don't know what brand. Most had Detroit Diesel power. They were very popular for smuggling. Use to see lots of them seized for smuggling. As drug runnning was controlled in the Keys production ceased. Before 1990 I believe. Builder went by the name of Choochoo and is now deceased. Still a lot of them around as charter boats and trap boats.

Something don't add up between the story your telling and the vessel for sale above that I posted about....
Could it be that someone else is now building Key West?
I don't doubt what your saying it's just that if they are still being launched new in yr 2000 then theres something more to this story after choochoo departed it would seem http://thehulltruth.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif.
Someone must know what up with all this?
Pretty hard to put a value on a boat when details of the manufacturer are so 'sketchy'?
Maybe time for some googling! http://thehulltruth.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Well looky at that seems EVERYONES got the Keywest brand name! http://thehulltruth.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I've lived in the lower Keys for over 20 years and have NEVER heard anyone refer to the hull as a Key West #1. Only as a #1. The charter boat sure looks like a fancied up one. I guess they added the dimensions of the bow pulpit and then averaged up on the length to get the 51 foot length. Key West boats is not in any way related to the #1 boats of times gone by. As far as value they were a cut below the best local built boat of that size which is a 43' Torres, at least in my opinion. They were very much either work boats where the owner had it built to meet his requirements or charter boats not of the Hatteras, Bertram yacht style. I know a local part time charter boat captain who owns a 39' #1. He seems to like it and only had complaints about some of the balsa core in the front deck. As for value it shouldn't be anywhere near a big name sportfish.
