I looked at a 2002 Trophy 1802 yesterday, it has about 20 hours on the motor, it is spotless. (the Mercury 125 Saltwater). Except for 1 thing, I believe its the hydraulic lift motor-Small pump looking thing on the lower right side. It's cover is completey rusted?? How much are they and are they easy to install?

It is impossible for me to believe there is only 20 hours on the motor and anything on it is rusted at all.

Might want to re-think before buying. Common sense tells me that there HAS to be more than 20 hours on it. Are you sure it's not 20 hours on a rebuilt powerhead?

On the 2001 and 2002 year it is very common.

for some stupid reason Merc did not use the proper coating on the motor and they rust out..

Mine is the same way...

if the trim pump still works, maybe just the housing is rusty. Try sanding it down and apply a couple of coats of rustolium. Then apply a couple of coats of trilux. You might be able to salvage it. Do not paint it with bottom paint however. good luck

My brother had a year 2001 model 2002 that experienced the same problem - replaced it and never had another problem.
