It looks like my Company is sending me to Islip Airport for a week or two in the next couple of weeks. Anything I should see or do while visiting? Anyone care to take me out for a boat ride???

If you have a free day head south to Bayshore and hop the ferry to Fire Island ..Either Kismet or
Ocean Beach......great beaches and some good eatin and drinkin bars///with great views. As for Fishing
plenty of Party boats in Freeport on Nautical mile (about 45 minute drive from islip).

Well, this all depends if I have a car or not??? Since i'll be working at the airport, not sure if they will give me a car or not so I might drive up from Florida. Looking on Google Map, I don't see to much around without a car.

Try and put it off a few weeks and fishing will heat up..blues, stripers.. You will need a car to do anything. Just getting from the LIE to the airport is a trek.

I agree! I spent about 2mo. there back in '87 - working at the nearby
Hauppauge Industrial Park (BIG place!).

Company put me up in a sleezy motel, but DID let me fly home every weekend - out of Islip Airport. Smallish airport - and I remember back then, there were NO FLIGHTS after DARK! Think it had something to do with the neighborhoods complaining about the noise? ;?

Didn't get to see too much (no car), and that has been my ONLY "visit" ever to New York state.

They DO have some GREAT "deli" food in the area - the old "diner-style" looking places are the best ones to get good food! NEVER seen so much meat, cheese, etc. piled on one sandwich! :o

Have fun, but DO take some reading material!

AND - do NOT go into ANY place that says, "Stinky's Meat, Cheese and Leather Clothing Emporium LLC"! :o

Regards,

The airport has changed allot since 1987 its allot bigger I live about 15mins from it you can rent a car right at the airport and drive anywhere you want Captree has some boats going out about 20-25min ride from the airport or head into Bay Shore for some of the best restaurants There isnt much going on at fire island before memorial day, I would suggest hitting captree for a fishing trip then take a nice drive along Ocean parkway. Might I ask what it is you are doing at the airport ??? and if you need any help with the area PM me I'll be glad to help... Oh and the airport is located in Ronkonkoma its in the township of Islip, not to confuse you if you drive around because there is a Islip area in the town of Islip but its way south of the airport

theres things to do you just need a car to get to them they have a few car rental places at the airport I wouldnt drive up, fly and rent a car its easier you'll be 10 mins from the train station you can jump on a train and be in the city in an hour another idea

LIM? That airport is huge now. I am sure you can find some nice gents clubs or tit bars or restaurants in the area. ;? It has been a while since I have done that scene. There is enough stuff to do for a couple of weeks. A lot more in the City of course. You get in/out along Vets. Hwy. (454) and Lakeland Ave. Bring a car.

Avoid driving up. :nono: If you do drive up, bring a lot of cash, the tolls are very expensive, and just take Exit 10 Perth Amboy on the N.J 'Pike. Not Exit 13 to the Goethals Bridge. Big shortcut across Staten Island. (440 OuterBridge Cr. to the Verrazano) Than pick BQE to the LIE, or Belt Pky.

Smitty,

One thing I just thought about ...

When I was up there, I'd thought about renting a car and driving out to Montauk - tip of LI - and spending the day.

Not sure when the "shark hunters" are in season - Montauk is suppose to be famous for those folks - but might be an interesting way to spend a Saturday or Sunday?

I'm SURE the place has changed a LOT in 21 years!

You can also take a cab from LIM to the ronkonkoma train station and head out to greenport or take one east to patchogue and take the train to montauk.

Or, just take the train into manhattan. It's a great time of year to check out the city.
