These guys are all on their way to the susquehanna flats... we'll get em there by kayak just as soon as the water clears up a bit (pretty muddy right now and only cut bait is producing). Semd me a PM if you want to be part of a trip... I'm planning on overnight yak trip camping on one of the islands... fishing the evening before, possibly at night, and then the next day.

Josh,

I noticed in your pictures that you have a Hobie with the Mirage Drive. I am a fellow Md. kayaker and I am getting ready to upgrade my ride. I have narrowed down my choices to either a Tarpoon 16 or a Hobie (either adventure or revo).

I will be using the new kayak for crabbing and fishing in the bay and ocean. I was hoping to get your opinion on the Hobie and how it handles in the bay chop and wind. Also, do you think the Hobie's with the Mirage Drive are worth the extra money? How does it paddle without the drive? Ever crab from your kayak?

By the way, nice fish. I'm looking forward to heading out this up coming spring during trophy season.

Thanks for time.

I have the revolution and am very happy with the handling, pedaling and paddling. I have been in a choppy 1 to 2' bay in S. Florida and boat wakes and was surprised how dry a kayak it is. I tour, fish and sail with it. The revolution is a fine fine kayak.

rigged for fishing:

If you choose the revolution you won't regret it.

Depends on how big you are but Im one of the first Hobie dealers in the country and the hotest seller is still the outback with the Revo close behind. I only sold one Adveture all last year. No body buys them anymore since the Revo. The revo is just as fast twice as stable and twice as dry. Yet its 3 feet shorter and $200 cheaper. Its a no- brainer. But for crabbing youl love the best selling Outback and its plenty fast to get you around fishing. If money is no object there is a new secret boat coming out in April that will be expensive.

Josh- Great pics! I see fishfinders quite a bit on kayaks, do you have any close up pics of how you have it mounted? Do you have a small marine battery to power it?

Hey Josh & bstnsportsfan,

Josh, AWESOME pics and what a nice catch!!!! Your yak is nicely rigged.

I have my fish finder mounted on a RAM mount for the Humminbird Piranha Max. Mounting location is a personal preference. I prefer mine close to me but not in the way of a paddle. The power supply can be an 8 "AA" battery box in a dry bag inside the hull or a Gel Cell battery in a Lexan waterproof box available from many websites ie: Cabellas, Kayakfishingstuff.com, Austinkayaks.com etc. etc. etc. The power and transducer cords are thru the hull at the finder and the transducer is glued inside the hull with epoxy or marine goop. A simple installation. RAM mounts makes mounts for a wide variety of fish finder brands & models.
