I have a 13 foot canoe with a flat back. I am thinking about putting a trolling motor on it but am not sure if it will work in the ocean. Help.

In general for a canoe that size an electric motor or no larger than a 2 HP OBshould do the trick.
I ran an electric on a 16' and it would plan it with two adults on board. My son now has it and uses a 3.5 HP 2 stroke but cannot run it wide open safely.
In either case I would not bring a 13' canoe out on the ocean. A kayak, yes. But canoes tend to roll very easily and if you get the slightest chop or are waked by a boat you have a very good chance of going over and at the very least losing all of your gear and motor and possibly you life.
Your call but I strongly advise against it. I am on the ocean all of the time in a much larger boat and I have seen too many small boats go over that just were not meant to be on that kind of water.

i canoe in the ocean all the time and have gone out a few miles on occasion....obviously you pick your days...and yes ...im sure its a canoe....any very small short shaft like a 2.3 would probably work

Ok thanks, but are you sure its not like a skiff. It also has holes on both ends that go all the way through, but i think its for bouyancy.
