Just came across this and thought I'd post it....Don't know if I'd have my 11yr old in the bow hooked up in these seas.

In these days, its hard to tell if its been photoshopped. I would think if it were real, he would'nt be that dry. ;?

I don't think it is photoshop. Look at the width of the gunnel where he is standing. the boat has to have a lot of flare and should be pretty decent in that sea. The swells are big, but the water surface says it is not blowing very hard.

No way. First, the shadow from the angler suggest the sun is to his back, the face of the wave wouldn't have any shadow on it. Second, the bow of that boat would be a wild ride as the boat came off the crest and slammed down in the trough. Third, due to point #2 the angler would be soaked already and holding on for dear life, not casually angling a fish as shown.

It may or may not be a real pic, but I have been offshore in large sportfishers with seas that big. The boats can handle it, and we didn't get wet. It almost looks like he is in the bow of a large CC. Looks real to me.

If its real or not I really dont care! But the father or uncle or who ever else is on that boat should have that boy in a life jacket! Theres been to many boating accidents last year to keep seeing pictures like this. Boats going down, people falling over, what ever the case maybe.
If it is real, I hope he landed his fish and made it back to the docks safely.

I think someone posted that pic a while ago without the big waves photoshopped in. Let me guess, he never would have landed that trophy if he didnt have the overpriced hat and tee shirt.

No reason that has to be photoshopped. You guys must not get off the lake too often, that water isn't so rough, the crest is hardly breaking.
Seas like that are routine offshore, and stretch for thousands of miles. Get used to it.

The fact that was shot off Miami and the color of the water I would think Gulf Stream with a mid teens northerly wind. That would give you a sea like that, large swell with little wave action.
Agree with the comments on PFD though.
To the though on returning to port - they may be only a mile or two off, and those shipping channels into Miami are wiiiiiiiide.

I'm another vote for photoshop.
The seas and the boy in the boat started out as two seperate pics. The boy and the boat were added to the seas. Too much sun on the kids back as compared to the sky and on the seas. IMO.
Plus, photoshopped or not, if I were the sponsor (Pelagic), I wouldn't have the pic of the kid w/o a PFD in that scenario just to advertise my brand name.
Irresponsible, if you ask me...

I think it's fine for an 11 year old boy to be without a lifejacket and the seas are perfectly manageable in a 30ft+ Sea Vee. I think the picture is real. As for him being dry, foul weather gear does a great job at keeping someone dry but it's hell to catch a fish in (too hot and bulky, especially on an 11 year old). Live baiting along the reef for sails, like they were probably doing considering the tackle, location, and weather, you don't get wet because the boats drifting instead of running.

not only do i think its a cool pic but i cant believe that you guys are sitting here trying to figure out if its reals or not. i meam HOLY CHIT!!!! nothing better to do. if someone caught a huge fish on your boat, bigger then you ever caught, i bet youre the type of guys that got pissed becaused you didnt catch it. and if you call this sturring the pot or whatever, i dont give a crap. other then that have a nice day!!!

I don't think its THAT bad either. More fair weather boaters on here than I thought. I've been out more than a few times with waves t-top high. Makes me wonder if some of you get out the inlet.
Not to mention the stream wall gets like that all the time on a countering wind. In NC, what are you going to do when you run 60 miles to the stream in 3-4's and then get to the break and it is 5-8, turn around?
I do agree a life jacket would be smart idea for the child.

I wouldn't call it "sturring" the pot....I would call your thread moronic. You take the time to criticize folks for taking the time to comment on a pic that was posted to generate comments. Are you still with me chief? Next, you spice up your rant with some pathetic "big fishie" analogy that makes about as much sense as your spelling. Gosh, I can hardly wait for your retort!

The picture is real, and the boy (Anthony) is an extremely accomplished offshore angler. I am familiar with both his father (Glen) and the boy as well. Anthony is part of Team Pelagic. Anthony holds the Rhode Island state record for Blue Shark, and a number of other contender fish as well. These guys shark fish like no other, and also fish all over the world. Typically, Anthony is harnessed into the vessel, being that he is small in stature, but don't let that fool you, he handles BIG fish, stand up only, with no help, and has for some time.
Those are big rollers off the Florida coast. It looks much worse than it actually is in those conditions.
It's kind of funny all the comments on this photo, based on what?, I cannot tell. Too bad really, as this father and son team do more offshore fishing in a year than most of us do in a lifetime.

My name is Glenn, Im very active on-line with several other boards and this is my first post here. I am the father of the angler in that image, he is my son Anthony. Let me start by saying this. His safety is my main concern. That image was 1 of a series of images that were taken while he was fighting a junior world record fish. It was a rougue wave that came through when the seas were 2 ft.
Details
Place: Miami Beach
Captain: Dean Panos
Distance from shore: Less than 2 miles
Boat: 2006 34' Sea Vee
My son is 12 years old, he is a world class angler that already has 5 different species of billfish under his belt including Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Atlantic Sail, Pacific Sail, Swordfish, he is on Pelagics Pro Team and has several large sharks such as Makos over 200, billfish over 300 and tunas over 200 lbs. He won the Junior Anglers Award at Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament in 2007 as well
In this circumstance he didnt need anything, the ocean wasnt that bad, he was tied into a 100" sail and the best place for him to fight a fish is from the bow.
Here is the whole series of images and I hate to say it but all of you who say its photoshopped are 100% wrong

That first image looks like normal rollers out in the ocean, in steady 15 - 20 knot trades...
Photoshoping (well) is an art. So is photography. That same scene, taken from other locations around the boat would appear quite different. If that scene were shot from the opposite side and further towards the bow, it wouldn't have nearly the impact, Id' wager. Well taken shot!
At 11 I could swim like an eel. MY dad didn't let me do anything "dangerous", so of course I snuck out and did as much dangerous stuff as I could. I always regretted the fact that he prevented me from doing a lot of stuff I could have excelled at, like BMX racing when I was a kid. MY son? He'd be up in that bow, but he'd also be wearing a PFD. An auto-inflater wouldn't encumber him that much, if at all. The ocean is not a forgiving place, and freak accidents (like rogue waves?) can occur. Just food for thought, dad.
Again, well taken shot. It was the Hot Shot photo of the month contest winner for good reason!

who said I should be beaten with a bat, first off, your shouldn't make comments like that, its really immature especially when your sitting behind a computer. Picking apart of picture of someone actually fishing is comical. Im a really nice guy but you have gotten me alittle upset now
That kid is my life, he is my joy. I spend more time with him than father I know so please dont question my parenting until you know us.
Now to the point, we fish hard all year long and saftey is my concern as well. We are actually working with Game Face Gear who makes the Mate Saver and the angler saver products. My son is helping them develope a youth bucket harness with a safety D ring attached.
Today when battling big fish he uses a mate saver harness which is tethered by a high quality safety rope along with an OTR bucket harness and smitty XL plate always attached to the boat. The first image is of him with the proper technique on an 80W leaning back, left hand on reel and exerting full force on a 400 lb shark. He knows how to fish better than most men and is hardcore, this shark was beaten in 20 minutes by a 100 lb kid
shhhhhhh ... I photoshopped his great technique

Glenn,
It is certainly refreshing to see a father so involved with his son on the water. With so much photo shop going on these days, it is nice to see that computers haven't completely consumed all of our youngsters these days. My nephew just turned two years old and I am really looking forward to sharing with him all the knowledge instilled in me by my father. If there are two things in life that are true it would be 1) family and 2)fishing. It truly is refreshing to read about such an accomplished young angler. I hope his enthusiasm spurs far beyond landing trophy fish and that my nephew and perhaps some day my own children, will be able to enjoy fishing in the same way as your son.
