Ok, my wife fell for the oldest paypal scam in the book after she received an email saying her account was compromised and that she needed to log in. So she did!!!

So now what do we do? Call Paypal first? Credit card company? Bank?

Thanks for the advice. I canceled the credit card and will take care of Pay Pal. First I need to find out from the wife what accounts she had linked to Pay Pal.

Figures I am heading on vacation (out of the country) at 5am on Saturday :( so the timing could not have been worse.

Remember, they also now have her password and I'd guess that to be their first order of business..........changing the password, so you probably can't log in. Phone Paypal NOW.

Yeah I can't believe it happened either. She's quite smart and very computer savvy and should know better but what you gonna do? What's done is done. That said, i looked at the email which was sent to her and can't believe she fell for it! She's gonna hear about this one for a long, long, long time to come. Dinner parties, the holidays... ;)

Another scam is some one will call knowing who your card is with and act like they are with that co. They will ask if you made some made up charges and of course you will say know. They then ask if you have your card and when you say yes they ask for those 3 back numbers to verify that you do have the card.

You are on the right track. I would also add your personal bank to the list of people to contact, as you may have had that info in your PayPal account.

Tell the wife she has a new job now

Now that certainly wouldn't be the wisest or kindest idea you ever came up with.
Sure she screwed up, but as her loving husband it's your job to support her and help her work her way through it, not rub her nose in it.

FF - I hope you get this thing nipped in the bud before it grows into a serious problem. Post back and let us know how it all turns out.

You should prob report it to the internet police or whoever but the sad reality is that the scamming is prolific now I doubt anything will be done about it.

I'd give that a lot of thought, reminding her in public of her brain fart might land you on the couch ... for a long, long time. :nono:
