On the Wilmington, NC section of Craig's list someone is selling a Commercial fishing license for $3200.00. I don't know how to put the link on this but look under boating and scroll down. Don't know if this is a good price or not buta friend of mine sold one about 4 months ago for $ 2,500.00. He said he just couldn't make a decent wage anymore.

If you can sell a bluefin tuna in N.C. with just a state comm. fish liscence then the permits are worth a hell of alot more than 3200.00. In Fl. you need a fed. tunas, shark, and sword permit pckg. and after that you must have 3500# other product on the boat first just to posess the bluefin unless they changed the req. recently. Otherwise it's not in the jail but under it boys! Fed. fines start at 5,000.00! On the sn/gr issue they're two for one, so if you want 1 you must buy 2 then apply for transfer and the going rate is 10,000-15,000 each. Now if you have 1 you may transfer from same owner to another boat or work out a private lease arrangement. The regs. change so often that you about have to carry an onboard lawyer to go along with the fed. observer.

I dont think NC is any less complicated. That is just one piece of the puzzle but a good chunk of it for sure.

In NC you need a SCFL: and the federal tuna permit, ot just a land and sell and the fed which are both open entry, no need to buy a NC license..... as far as I know?

You need a commercial license to sell any fish in NC. As far as the BlueFin you also need a Fed HMS and also have your vessel licensed as a commercial fishing vessel. Now If you're a non resident you can get the land and sell but you will need the appropriate documentation for Fed licenses.
