Anyone have any aerial photo's of Manteo or Pirates Cove?. Our rental home is west of PC and I'm trying to figure out where the canal is to get to the bay.

That was the 1st thing I did, however only the northern part of roanoke island is a new high res photo. The middle and southern part of the island is a worthless low res. A friend has a "mytopo" map that is not much better. None of the marine maps I can find show any canals. I know their is one behind the house and the home next to ours has a large sailboat in the canal (thanks for the photos of the house dawiggs). Someone a while back had posted some photos from their plane, I did a search and could not find anything.

Fast...I've found what I think your looking for but youll have to listen to my directions because the link isn't right. I didn't check google earth so I don't know if the quality is any better. Here goes....

1.) Go to

2.) There are two text boxes in the top middle of the page, type in your address which should work, giving you a road map style view of the area.

3.) Using the box just inside the map view, click "hybrid" and zoom in from there.

Hope that helps, I don't know if the detail is good enough, but I can see the canals. Good luck.

You can also look at the aerial photos from the Dare County GIS mapping program. It lets you zoom in to the top of your house in pretty good detail.

Open the first drop down block and click on GIS online, then hit property inquiry. The county map will come up. Just start clicking on the pirates cove area and zooming in. Once you get zoomed in enough, blocks will pop up on the left and you can click that you want to see the aerial photo. Then, just zoom right into your house and the canal.

The Corps of Engineers has aerial photos for the most of the NC coast, online. If you can't the photos online for some reason, call them. I think they should all be there but its a new system and they still are working on it.

Thanks guys for all the info

Law Dog: Thats a pretty cool link, great res on the images. I think it a little dated, it does not look like our rental house has been built yet ;?

Now I'm real Happy. I just noticed our little development has our own boat ramp :)

07-11-2007, 08:44 AM
If that one is not suitable there is a Wildlife Ramp about 1/4 of a mile to the east of you just before you go over the bridge to OBX. It's right across the street from Pirates Cove. The Wildlife Ramp is good.

Thanks Tom. I've been to the ramp across from PC in past years. I must say that one of the best public ramps I have ever been to
