Fished all day yesterday, slow trolled the jungle. Caught only one king but it was a good size fish. Had one other short strike it missed my hooks. The water was loaded with spanish feeding, but I couldnt seem to get near them. Tons of weeds everywhere, fouling my baits every few minutes. I brought a friend of mine with me that was sea sick the whole time. I gave him a Dramermine, and he slept all day while I trolled. Weather was nice, some big swells now and then didnt help my buddys condition. All in All I had a good time despite the lack of fish and lack of company. I stopped at Poo's for a beer after cleaning the boat and sending my buddy home with the one king. Jetty Jay

Thanks for the report. Sounds like the jungle was awful quite (all except the sound of selling BUICKS & Pontiyacks)

Better luck next time

Yep. I'll be at HB from the 13th - 22 and heading to the usual haunts in Long Bay. 390/390, Christina, 15 and 18 mile rocks as well as maybe the Jungle and Horseshoe.
Hoping for light breezes all week. :)

Thursday was unusually slow, my prior two trips to the jungle the week before were non stop kings all day and some dolphin as well. I think it was just a slow day. I would be there today if the wife didnt already plan my day. JJ

I will be out there a few times in the next ten days. I will post my trips and look for others posting. I generally start at 390/390 then shoot over to the finger then the jungle. And sometimes if its slow I run out to the governor which has been holding dolphin . JJ

The Horseshoe was slow on Friday as well. We caught 2 nice dolphin between Horseshoe #1 and #2 early on and that was it. Could have ended the day at 10 AM. Did have a big school of Cobia hang around the boat for a while. Tried to entice them with a pogey but they weren't having it. Ride in and out was a bit sporty. Twenty knots out and 27 knots in. Lockwood Folly Inlet was pretty nasty coming in.

Southern Fried, Would love to man. I believe I saw your Contender once at the Holden Beach ramp under the bridge gassing up at Capt Pete's. I think you had two blonde headed youngins with you. Was that you?

The short ride to the stream up there would put less of a dent in my wallet with these 'thirsty merc's I've got. .

I'm sure it was us. I fished the Long Bay area for about 4 yrs. But yes the trip to the stream is much eaiser on the wallet up north and coolers come home twice as heavy.

I lived in Florida for 15 years, 10 on the west coast, five on the East. While living on the west coast I had to run 50 miles out in the gulf to get decent fish. On the east coast I had a 7-8 mile trip to the stream. Those were the days. I might buy a condo near my daughters in Lauderdale and a hop skip and jump to the stream.~ JJ~

Mike,

It's a big ocean out there. Heard the radio chatter bout the tower being slow too. I had the VHF set to ch 11 most of the day. Good thing I saved the gas money :( and stayed mostly a few miles south of the horseshoe. Next time you're headed down this way give me a call. I'm sure sure you wouldn't mind a little company and some gas money  . Beside that, I wanna see how those E-Tec's run. I've eventually gotta repower this gas guzzler with something.

Hal
