My wife and I would have a traditional "date night" to Basnight's but they haven't reopened yet since the fire. Any suggestions for comparable food?

Red drum on the beach road, MP 12
Flying Fish Cafe, bypass, across from t-tops racing, mp 9.5, very pricey
or Prime Only, mp 10.5, bypass.

Tale of the Whale on the causeway just east of Basnights, or Owens on the beach road mile post 15.

Stripers in Manteo is a bit casual, but the food is terrific....

I agree with Tale of the Whale - same family-owned/operated place since opening 20+ years ago after J.L. Seagull's moved farther down the Banks, and similar fare (and view!) to Basnight's.
Wife and I were down about 3 weeks ago and were sad to see what happened to Basnight's - sign said reopening later this summer and they were working on it like ants on Saturday AND Sunday!
Basnight's is probably our favorite down there, but we ended up eating 2 nights at Tale of the Whale and it was as good as ever - FIVE softshells with my dinner one night! Yeah, they're a little small (everywhere!), but I didn't expect to get that many!

Sorry, double post.

Thanks for the suggestions, my wife wanted to try RV's Sugar Creek since there is always a full crowd and a long wait - they told us an hour but it was only 30 minutes. We're here for at least two more weeks so we will be trying some of the other suggestions as well.

Run Down Cafe in Kitty Hawk and Chili Peppers are reasonable, good food.

Tortugas lie, great food! It's noisy and small, but worth it for some great food!

Don't forget about Flying Fish Cafe! Food is AWESOME!!

If it is a "date" I would recommend The Colington Cafe, on Colington Rd. in KDH. It is much quieter and more romantic, but the food is super and the price reasonable.

Went to Tale of the Whale last night, excellent. Will get to Flying Fish when the babysitter comes next week.

We went to JK's in Kill Devil Hills last nite. Excellent Ribs... However if you want a very nice "date place experience", try Argyle's in Kitty Hawk.
Regards and Enjoy,
