Well working 12-14 hour days outside on my service truck finally got to me!!! The other night when I got home , I threw my work jeans into the washer (on "heavy" soil) with, you guessed it.............MY 8gb iPOD NANO!!!

Well after letting it dry out for a couple of hours by leaving it on the dashboard of my truck........I plugged it in , it turned on but the screen stayed dark..........So I did a "restore" reloaded all my songs, SOLVED!!!

Not that I recommend bein a moron like me and washing it, but it at least supports my original thought that the Nano with its flash drivve and construction is more durable (and boat-proof) than a regular iPod !!!

Thought I would share my dumb-ness, luck, and iPods durability!!

Had it been saltwater or had the iPod been on when it got wet, you probably wouldn't have been as lucky.

Well, sir, I'm very glad for you. I'm very glad that the guy's iPod survived as well. Perhaps next time I should throw in a few celebratory remarks so as not to upset your seemingly delicate sensibilities as you patrol the Electronics Forum ensuring that everyone remains uppity and optimistic.

I wasn't intending to crash a celebration. I was merely pointing out that putting an electronic device through the wash is slightly different than dunking one in saltwater. If the device is on when it gets wet, it further complicates things. Having lost cellphones in the past to minor encounters with saltwater, I simply felt the need to point out that not every such situation ends favorably.

PEOPLE,PEOPLE Lighten up. The guy did not ask for opinions on why he was lucky and his ipod still works. He asked how could he prevent this from happening again because he knows he was lucky this time. Now if someone could answer the original question of how to waterproof an ipod it would be greatly appreciated.

You are right Glen, I was just sharin the story of my bein' a dummy, and getting lucky!!

As for waterproofing, no , I didnt ask how, because I dont think its posssible........But I do have one of those H20 Audio cases, and it is completely waterproof..............But that aint gonna help when Im half asleep and throw laundry in with an iPod on my jeans pocket.

Anyone really looking to completely waterproof an iPod should use one of those H20's................Saltwater and power on, as well

If only you were the first person to do this… No, not me. One of my sons, and it was a 4gb Nano, black, if that matters.

What you are going to be looking for is a hot day when the moisture that is still inside of your Nano (it doesn't come out in 'spin' cycle) has an opportunity to manifest itself as fog…inside of your Nano, and under the display. When that happens your Nano may experience limited functions. You’ll take it inside of the house, the fog will go away, the display will clear, and maybe full function will return. You’ll forget about it and take it outside, again… At some point full function does not return.

The good news is that iApple replaced my son’s Nano at no charge even tho it was several months outside of its warranty. He told the guy at the iApple store what happened, and the guy just said “here” and handed him a new iPod.
