I have a raymarine c80 with dsm250 and airmar m256 ducer that I am relocating to another boat and I don't have the mounting box for the m256.

First, does anyone know the difference between a m256 and the m260?

Second, does anyone know where I can get the mounting box for the m256 or should I change to the m260?

Thanks,
Mike

The M260 is better than the M256. The 256 has 4 elements for 50kHz and 200kHz and the 260 has 8 elements (1 for 200kHz and 7 for 50kHz). I'm not sure where you could get a replacement box. I don't think they sell them anymore. I would go with a new M260.

I'm pretty sure they are the same box. The M256 and the M260 are the same form factor. You can check it for certain with gem electronics (1-843-210-7000). Gem is Airmar's main distributor and they can answer any, and I do mean any, questions you can think of related to current or past products.

I have 1 for the 260 I would sell. Brand new never used. You need to be sure it is the same box though.

M256 doesn't exist anymore per se. AirMar pulled it from supporting the inhull application about 3 years ago now, you could still get the element and use their oversized transom mount (looks kind of like a kicker motor mount) for a TM256.

There is an old M260 and a new M260. They are not the same and the tanks are a different fit. The new M260 does not have the metal plate with the two metal handles... rather there is one handle and it's a mold of the transducer. Meaning the handle is actually a part of the transducers plastic mold if that makes sense to everyone. I have a picture with what they both look like but I have no idea how to embed it in this forum. If you PM me I can email it.
