I just purchased one of these EPIRBS. The manual indicates that a magnet should be inserted into the bracket to prevent the EPIRB from activating when it gets damp or wet from a splash etc. Where do I get the required magnet? and Is this magnet necessary? If you store the EPIRB in a ditch bag, do you still need to keep it in the bracket with the magnet? Thx..

Bluefin2na,
If you purchased the Epirb Brand new, the magnet is installed in the bracket at the factory for you.
If you keep the EPIRB in a ditch bag, it needs to be kept dry, otherwise if out of bracket and wet it will transmit.
Be sure to register the beacon at www.beaconregistration.noaa.gov

I'll have to take your word for it. It doesn't appear to be installed where the instructions say it should be, but maybe i just don't know what i'm looking at. The instructions indicated you had to install a magnet dependant on which model you had purchased. Hopefully all is well and it won't activate on accident.
