After talking to Furuno, TR1,Raymarine and Simrad ,I now know that each of them makes the best autopilot. I have a 36SF that I fish. Any recomendations from owners? ;?

I have the TR-1 and it's been better then expected. The support is awesome and they go out of there way to help out. I have an all simrad solution and was looking at Simrad AP and after seeing the TR-1 i was sold.

TR-1 all the way, especially on an outboard as no parts are exposed to saltwater like most auto's. They will hold a course better and do a few things other autopilots won't do.

A tr-1 is better for simple, solid reasons that are not "someone's opinion" but fact:
1. it will steer better in sloppy seas esp if you troll on one engine
2. It is the only AP that is tied to the tachs so it will never turn too sharp if you are at speed
3, It has true shadow drive -which disconnect the AP automatically if you move the wheel - other will turn but you just overpower it - the tr-1 truly shuts off until the track stays straight..
3. it is toally waterproof - the entire unit will work underwater so corrosion is impossible -all other control boxes are exposed to air...
4. it is the only AP that incorporaes reverse tracking which give you the ability to use it as a virtual anchor for bait fishing an inlet against current.
5. It has the simplest set up and straightforward calibaration procedure of all AP's

It is the preferred AP for new Yellowfins, SeaVees and Fountains - and they have contracts with other electronics companies that make AP's, and choose to use tr-1...there is a reason...

designed by a Boeing engoneer for the way he fished...recently bought out by Garmin so it has fianacial strength...

and by the way, if you don't like the tr-1 for some reason - get a Simrad, it's the only other AP that does not use a rudder transducer which is an antiquated way to rig an outboard AP....

Uh, the Raymarine S1000 also uses no rudder feedback and is under 1000 bucks.

it's easy if you are used to installing other equipment - the manula is very complete even down tothe type of GPS you have and the wiring for each mfr...search out a person here named Jim Z - he is the master of tr-1 self installs...have a authorized tr-1 dealer inspect it after you are done to ensure the full warrranty...email me if you want his email address....
