An Australian diver fought his way out of the jaws of a great white shark after the creature "swallowed" his head and upper body.
In a rare escape from one of the ocean's deadliest predators, Eric Nerhus frantically hit the 10ft-long shark in the head as the force of its bite crushed his face mask and broke his nose.
The man-eater then took a second bite, clamping its jaws around Mr Nerhus's body and leaving deep cuts on either side of his torso as he struggled to break free.
"He was actually bitten by the head downwards, the shark swallowed his head," said his friend and fellow diver, Dennis Luobikis, 53. ...
