Should you expect the dealer to supply you with a Coast Guard package when you purchase a new boat? I did get everthing on my previous two boats but nothing with my newest purchase.

depends on the deal you stuck..did you beat him up or let him make a little?....but yes...most people do if they were not jerks buying the boat (a jerk is like "I got a better deal 75 mile away for 200 less"..then I'd screw you too...IMO)

It all depends on the dealer....With that being said some manufacturers supply the items and dealers may add a few more. What came with my Sea Pro: (1)Emergency kit w/flare gun (4) docking lines (1) Anchor/chain/line (4) fenders (1) boat hook (4) life jackets

It was a smooth transaction with no bickering or hard selling or bartering on my part and by the way it was a $48,000 boat. I was just surprised when i picked up the boat and it didn't even have a fire ext or cheap life jackets.

Every boat we have bought has come with the Coast Guard Package. One boat we really haggled over the price with the dealer and he still threw it in.

Got a pretty nice Coast Guard package with our Sailifish 2360 and a full tank of gas (150 gallons). To answer your question, yes I would expect the dealer to include it with any new boat purchase. The way my dealer put it to me is that he did not want us getting a fine going from his place to our marina so he could save a few bucks.......

Give me the credit and I will buy my own. Some of the coast guard package's I have seen, I would rather purchase my own for my family. I know it meets requirements, but safety comes first!!

Agreed. Most of the stuff that came in mine was junk.

You should expect to get what you negotiate ... ;)

Yep, after beating up my last three dealers, my boats had the CG package, mooring package and full tanks of fuel included with them. And one was delivered 90 miles to my house since they didn't have it done when promised.

Hey, they still won. They made a sale.

My boats all had them thrown in. The funny thing is my middle son likes the cheap orange PFD's better than the vest I got him. I don't mind what he wears as long as he wears.

I've gotten one on each of my three boats, and would expect one.

The orange lifevests go into storage, as I always use Sterns Type II vests instead. Unsually it is not the best set up out there, but an anchor, 150' of line, the vests, a throwable, life jackets, a fire extinguisher, and flares add up to a couple hundred bucks and is a start for a first time boater. Now that I have been boating a while I would just as soon get the cash and buy my own, but at least it is something. I still think the boat manufacturer should be including the fire extinguisher and anchor with line, since they are more a part of the boat, but that is just me.

I got one with every new boat I ever purchased. When I saw it listed in my deal on the SeaPro I asked them to swap it for the best first-aid kit they had. I got the first aid kit and the CG stuff anyway... Maybe I paid too much ;?

I tried to negotiate out the CG pk because I have all that stuff and better. Dealer says all boats go out with it, no exceptions. Not a water delivery, either. Maybe a liability thing.

We have a winner!
Any dealer that sends a boat off their yard to be used without the minimal CG is a fool, and is setting themselves up for huge liability risk. With dealers cost on cheap life jackets, fire ext., paddle, anchor, etc. amounting to all of $100, it's crazy not to do it.
I would be wary of a dealer that doesn't provide the kit - if he's that tight and that stupid, he's also going to take shortcuts everywhere else he can - like maybe the oil he puts in your lower unit...

In CT I believe every new boat HAS to be delivered with a full safety package... I'm sure different dealers will provide varying levels of quality, but there is a legal minimum.
