Default Suzuki Outboard slow shift

I have a 2003 Suzuki DT225 with 330 hours..mine since new. Just started a month or so that when I shift from N to fwd I get a GRRRRR and then it shifts into gear. I get a minimal noise going into rev most of the time. Is this an adjustment problem or do I need new throttle and shift cables. The throttle does not appear excessively stiff , or any stiffer than in the past..thanks

Seaox,

I just had a similar issue, however my issue occurred when going from N to reverse. After checking everything, it ended up being excessive Salt buildup in the Shift Control Box.

So what was the fix...were you able to clean and lube or did you have to replace some parts...thanks

I had actually brought it to my mechanic thinking my problem was related to the Suzuki shift bushing issue. I have the side mount shift control with built-in key and safety clip. He unmounted the control, and dissembled it. Upon disassembly he said the salt build up was visually obvious, he cleaned it (not sure with what) and reassembled. I am not sure if he used any grease after cleaning. He did not have to replace anything

If the issue is salt build up I would not wait for spring. Storage over the winter will allow more corrosion to take place. Cleaning now may solve the problem, wait till spring and you may be looking at replacement.
