Default help with 225 Johnson?

A1,

I have a year 2000 225 Johnson that surges @ WOT. It also gives a check engine light on the tach. I am double oiling till I find the problem but before then it was easy to see, when the problem happened, the engine was running lean (all cyls). It will idle all day long but under way it acts up.

Heres what I have done:
New fuel line- 3/8 ID type A all the way. 16' in total from new tank with no antisiphon (removed). Line is interupted by a new racor only.

New VRO
New Vac Switch
Carb re-builds (they looked fine)
link and sync done
idle speed timing OK

Could the 16' of line providing some or too much resistance for the new VRO?

Its hard to test problems @ WOT so I have been puzzled.

It is not a good idea to remove the antisyphon valve. It is there to prevent fuel from collecting in the bilge. You are putting yourself and your passengers in danger! Have your dealer do a pressure and vacuum test at WOT. This should verify your problem. You didnt mention if you had removed the fuel pickup from the tank to clean the sock on the end. Problem could be there. While you have it out install a high quality brass and stainless antisyphon valve.

A1,

Thank you for the reply. I did go through all 6 carbs again and re-set floats and high speed jets. The surging @ WOT is now gone.

BUT

The check engine light still comes on and it comes on @ all different RPM's. It is very hard to determine when you will get it to come on. When it does I shut down...pump the bulb twice and away I go. Its hard to believe there is a restriction anywhere as everything is NEW and I have crawled over every inch of the fuel system. I did pull the tank pickup and it is clear 3/8 tube.

Do you think the 16' of fuel line may be too much for a new VRO pump?

What is the proper position of a primer bulb? post racor? next to tank pickup?

Thanks
