1986 225 johnsons - The Hull Truth

I have a chance to purchase a pair of 1986 225 Johnsons to repower my boat with. They are supposed to have 160 hrs on rebuilds. I know they are old but my budget is very small. They are under $2000.00. Can you offer any info on this year and model motors? Good, bad or indifferent? Do you think I will be able to keep gas in them pushing a 25 Pro-Line? Just poor-boy trying to put something together on the cheap. Any input would be appreciated.

I would like to know why these engines were rebuilt and what was done during the rebuild. 1986 was the first year for this engine and there were some changes made during the model year. If the engines are in good condition and not full of corrosion you might have several years of use out of them, or they might be plagued with problems. I would have an experianced OMC technician take a look before I spent my money.
