The overboard indicator on this engine is a hose that starts at the lower part of the exhaust cover on the left side of the engine and loops over the top of the powerhead to exit through the lower engine pan on the right side. Check the hose for blockage, it should have a stream of water coming from it when the engine is running.
A vacuum leak in the fuel hose can cause heavy smoking. Replace the fuel line if it is cracked. Be sure the connections do not leak.
