Lower unit - The Hull Truth

hello, i have a 1988 225 johnson long shaft. Will the lower unit out of a 1996 175 johnson long shaft fit it? splines, length of shaft, shift rod, foot bolt up? Thanks

The housing and the gears will work but the driveshaft and the shift shaft will not. A tech can use the shafts from the 225 gearcase to make the 175 gearcase usable on your engine.

There is no need to buy new parts unless the parts in your old gearcase are damaged. Have you tech remove the parts fron the 225 gearcase and install them int the 175.
