Default Tilt/Trim removal

I have an 94 rude 225 that needs the tilt/trim replaced. The long stainless rod on the bottom seems to be stuck. The service manual shows that it is supposed to be removable but it's not moving. Can I apply heat and some gental tapping with a hammer?I really don't want to remove the motor if I can help it. Thanks in advance.

Be certain you have removed the retainer clip from both ends of the rod. The TNT unit has plastic bushings, while the bracket is metal to metal. With the retainers removed, tap the rod back and forth. If this does not work, you may have to apply heat. The heat may melt the plastic bushings. When you reassemble, use a little anti-seize on the pin.
