Default No spark on #2 but good coil

On my 97 Yamaha 225 EFI Model L225TXRV I have no spark on the #2. I checked the coil by swapping signal wires with another cylinder and the coil is good. SO I am not getting the signal from the switch box/module whatever its called (black box with lots of wires on the ******.

Figuring I will have a hard time finding that box for a good price. In the meantime I was thinking of ways to fix this. #1 can I actually fix the black box. Or if there was another cylinder that ignited at the same time as #2 then I could splice into that wire. All the other 5 cylinders have good spark.

Can anyone tell me which cylinder fires at the same time as 2?

And I am looking at it from the back Yamaha labels it:

2 1

4 3

6 5

The problem may not be the CDI box. The CDI gets a signal votage from a pulser coil under the flywheel. There are 7 wires going to the pulser (trigger) white with colored tracers and a black ground. Check each of the wires to ground, for output, while cranking the engine. You should see the same voltage on each wire. If not you may have found the problem. The CDI on these engines also contains EFI and timing functions. If this is a 25 inch engine be aware they drop cylinders at idle. If you are checking spark with the engine running this may be what you are seeing. If you have a bad pulser on #2 you will also loose injection on #3. All cylinders on this engine fire every revolution, 60 degrees apart. No two cylinders are at TDC at the same time. The CDI outputs can be checked with an ohmeter. Disconnect the wires. check to ground, reverse leads, check again. The readings should be similar on all wires.

Ok thanks for your help. I did the test and the white with black tracer gets no signal. So I assume that pulser coil is bad. Do I have to get a new stator? Or just the pulser coil? Whats the next step? I guess if I am not getting fuel to the #3 I should refrain from running the engine.

I looked at the Yamaha parts diagramn looks like I may have a bad Pulser, coil. Part#61A-85580-00-00. If you have th epart I would like to purchse it from you if you are willing to overnight since you have been so helpful. Also do I need a special flywheel puller like the mercuries or will a universal one work?

We typically do not stock electrical components. Do a search on the web for dealers that sell to the public. A universal puller will work. Remeber the threads are metric. The stator does not need to be replaced. Be sure to use loctite on bolts when you replace them.

Changed the Pulsar coil and it runs great. Even fixed an abnormally high idle problem that it had as well. Thank you very much again for your help. This time of year it would have taken forever to get a tech to fix this for me.
