1993 Johnson 88 spl - The Hull Truth

It runs great but cannot be started cold without a shot of starting fluid. Once started it runs great and will start easy warm. The primer ball gets nice and hard.

It did have a taste of bad gas to start the season. Any advice on where to start?

These engines are notorious for sticking the bottom piston ring. A compression test will not show this. See my previous post on how to run internal engine cleaner through the carbs.

I'm not sure I see a correlation between the two? It turns over fine (nice and fast) it just isn't getting any gas into the carb or something.

I agree that decarbing is a good idea though.

make sure the eletric primer is passing fuel when key switch is pushed in and motor is started.
