Default 92 johnson 150 oceanrunner

I have a 92 Johnson 150 on a 23 foot Sea Era. the VRO pump has been removed. At 5000 rpms and somtimes less it cuts out and sometimes cuts off. I have clened the pick-up screen on the pick up, replaced fuel filter, fuel line, ball in fuel line, removed the check valve in top of fuel tank and used fresh gas. This motor has done this since I put it on the boat used. It seems as though it is staving for fuel though I am not sure. It idles great. It does better when warm though not 100%. Any thoughts?

You didnt say if the cutoff is immediate or if the engine just slows down. Generally fuel problems will cause the engine to slow down or loose power. Electrical problems cause the engine to stop or hesitate. It would be best to repace the anti-syphon valve, it will protect you from fuel in the bilge in the event of a leaky hose. Sometimes fuel problems can be pinpointed by pushing in on the key when the problem occurs. If the problem is helped it is fuel related. If it is worse it may be electrical.

I don't know about an anti-syphon valve. what I did away with was a check valve at the top of the fuel tank. It was just a check ball ' but seemed like a lot of restriction. the motor does not slow down. sometimes it cuts right off and somtimes cuts out and restarts itself. just enough to be dangerous if you are not holding on. one thing I am not clear on is if I have blocked off the vro pump properly. what does the stator do. is the stator all or nothing?

The stator supplies power to the ignition system. It can be intermittant. Removing the VRO oiling system involves removing the oil line and unplugging the warning harness. Check your spark plugs to see if they are Champion QL series plugs. This engine will not run correctly on any other plug.

My ` 96 150 O.P. ran rough off idle to 1800 when I got it 2 yrs ago. ql78yc. changed to ql82yc and fine. Some think that`s too hot. Called Monty racing and they said try ql77jc4 and they are great. Must run Champs.
Cheers
