Default 1960's Glasspar

I just acquired a late 60's Glasspar Avalon 15' with a Mercury 800 outboard from a family member. It has been in a garage for 30 years. It looks surprisingly good original upholstery is still soft. And it still has the original soft top not sure what you call those. Anyway it was in the water after a tune-up around 1986 after about a 12 year storage in the same garage, and from what I'm told it ran fine. It was never used much they tell me, it was common for it to sit a couple years between uses but always started and ran fine. So I want to get the motor running where do I start? I'm fairly competent with cars and mechanical stuff but I've never worked on an outboard before. I'm assuming a new impeller on the water pump is first, then.....

Any thoughts appreciated.

Not sure if I have this in the right forum

You are correct about the water pump replacement. The carbs and fuel pump diaphrams will also need to be looked at. The wiring insulaton on these engines tends to crack with age so take a look at it. A water separating fuel filter should be installed between the engine and the fuel tank. These engines did not have fuel system components designed for use with alcohol blended fuels so you may have problems with the fuel system as you run the engine.
