yamaha salt water series 225 - The Hull Truth

It’s a 95' salt series ( rebuilt 2 yrs. ago)carbureted that I am having trouble with. when I give it throttle at around 3 thousand rpm she holds back, bogs down then will kick up as I keep giving it throttle. once im up at 4 grand it runs fine right up to wide open. same problem powering down, around 3 grand it loads up and will serge almost stalling if I don’t pull back on the throttle. Idles fine. I cant figure it out( changed the plugs, new boots on the plug wires, running star-tron in the gas,) is it something with the carbs?

The problem could be in the carbs if they have not been professionally cleaned. The sync and link on this engine is very critical and it is difficult to find techs who can do it correctly. Another area that needs to be looked at is the throttle position sensor. The TPS controlls the spark advance and could be the cause of your symptons. Shop around for a tech that is familiar with this engine.
