Cracked lower unit - The Hull Truth

I have a 2001 Johnson (Suzuki) 225 4 stroke with a 2-3" crack in the lower unit foot (not sure of the name). The crack is on the side and between the leading edge and the propeller end of the "foot". There is no obvious damage or sign of collision. I have been told that the fix is to drill a hole to stop the crack and fill the entire defect with a JB Weld sort of agent. I have no experience with this. Is this an appropriate remedy?

If the crack is mostly towards the front you can weld it or send it to us we can do that. If there is no oil coming out you could be able to use JB weld I suppose we don't use much of that stuff unless we weld it first
