Re: VST The most important thing is to have run a fuel stablilizer additive throughout the whole fuel system. You just can't add it to the tank and run the boat a few minutes. It's best to treat the tank, then take the boat out for a run to get everything circulated. You can drain the VST but it does not empty completely. Some mechanics hook up a special winterizing tank of fuel with 24:1 oil and a stabilizer and connect the hose to the front fuel filter, then drain the VST before running the motor. That way the treated fuel is in the VST and the motor only has to be run about 15 minutes or so at a fast idle. The oil helps lubricate the electric pump to avoid ethanol corrosion on that $700 pump. It also protects the primary electric pump.
Be sure the prime the fuel system before starting the motor up in the spring.
