300XS - The Hull Truth

Are there any bulletins out on the 300XS? I was reading somewhere else that there have been some coil problems? I recently purchased a 300XS and between 3000 to 3500 rpms, the motor likes to hesitate while providing a considerable shake throughout the boat. Bump it up anywhere above 3500 rms and it runs smooth as can be. One other thing, I run a 23" Tempest Plus and only turn 5300 to 5400 rpms. According to others, I should definitely be getting 5800 rpm on a 21' Contender turning a 23" Tempest Plus. Should I maybe check my plugs? I took the cover off and it looks like the plugs are very difficult to get to. Is there a trick? Hopefully, I am concerned for no reason. Other than that, very happy with the motor.

It would be best to contact the service manager at a Merc dealership with your serial number. He can then run the numbers for warranty history and can check for any applicable bulletins on your motor. The thing to remember is that service bulletins normally only affect a small range of motors, depending on their serial number.
