Default Help changing Element filter HPDI

A1...I posted in the boating section some questions. I have replaced my Racor filters on my twin 2003 Yam. 250 HPDI. I have some dirty fuel. I need some help changing the Element filter. I got the clear cannister off, but can't disengage it, to get in and change the filter after the coil.does it screw off? Do you purge it from the bottom screw first?Any help would be areciated.

Thanks

Are you asking about the metal cannister on the Racor filter beign stuck on after the clear bowl was removed?

If so, use 2 filter wrenches 180° apart and using both hands, the extra leverage will remove a frozen on filter.

Thanks for the quick response. Noooo. Its the onboard filter behind the VST tank (Not the metal one), but in a clear bottle type cannister. There is a coil system in the bottle holding it in place. Its part number 68F-24563-00.

Thanks again.

OK, now we are on the same page!

That primary filter element is just pressed on to a nipple in the top underside of the bracket. Grab, pull, and wiggle the plastic filter body to remove it. Inspect the replacement filter to make sure an oring is in the attaching hole, or remove the one from the old filter to seal the new one.

Because there is limited room under the filter, carefully push the filter into place while the clear bowl is held underneath. Put a touch of oil on the bowl's oring and a dab of marine grease on the collar mounting threads.

When done, make sure the black threaded collar covers all the threads as shown in the picture you posted. It is easy to displace the clear plastic bowl and there will be several threads visible after hand tightening the collar.

I'm having trouble getting my nut to screw up all the way and I'm leaking fuel when I squeeze the primer bulb.

Is there any tricks?

Thanks,

The fuel filter housing has to fit perfectly up into the upper bracket so the collar will thread up all the way. In extreme cases, the housing is warped or egg-shaped slightly and may have to be replaced. Put oil on the oring and a touch of grease on the threads to help install and seat the filter housing. Good Luck.

I ordered a new filter assembly and Yamaha has made some changes. The bowl screws on to the bracket and the filter element is different, I think this new one is 10 microns. Someone told me that there has been some fires with the old one because of leaks.
