Default 2003 200 HP Ficht Oil

Hi -
I use XD50 and was wondering if there is a ratio to oil to fuel and or hours ... I'm new to these engines and so far they are great .. I'm wondering if they are consuming too much oil.. I have about 120 hours this season on twin 200 Fichts and have used about 16-18 gallons (total 2 engines) of XD 50 ...

Thanks,
Vin

There is no "oil ratio" because the FICHT engines use the compute to figure out how much oil the engine needs at that exact moment. At trolling speeds, oil consumption is very low. As soon as you advance the throttle rapidly, oil consumption is very high due to the motor under heavy load. At a steady cruise in calm water, the oil use is steady. If the motor over-revs or gets too hot, the oil pump goes crazy trying to keep the motor protected.

Oil consumption also depends on the boat rigging, pump, and the pressure regulator. If the oil return line gets kinked or plugged, the higher oil pressure forces more oil into the motor. If the oil pump has a pinhole in the diaphragm, oil leaks into the crankcase. If the pressure regulator is restricted or plugged, you get the same excessive oil consumption as with a kinked return line.

Have a trained tech, or follow the factory manual specifically, on testing the oil pressure circuit, inspectiing the lines, and pressure testing the oil pump. When all is done and correct. Then you have to accurately fill both the oil tank and the fuel tank, and keep records of the usage. High speeds use more oil than cruising or trolling. Because this engine uses so little fuel compared to the same size carbureted motors, you have to remember that the motor still needs a certain amount of oil, so the fuelil ratios cannot be compared to older motors.

Thanks for the quick response and detailed information. I have the factory manual and will take a look that section. As long as my engines continue to be trouble free I have no issue with current oil usage I was just wondering if it seem excessive . I guess the good new is I have been able to put 120 hours on and should still have 2 months left in my season.
